Marcie MacLellan Managing Partner
Marcie established Incontext over a decade ago after dreaming it up in the back of a fairly well-known publishing house in Toronto, Canada. Fresh from journalism school, she vowed to always keep her writing ‘in context’ no matter what form it took. This simple proposition worked. In 2001, the business skipped across the country to Vancouver, Canada. And in 2008, it leaped across the pond to London, England.
Marcie has had the opportunity to work with some of the world’s most recognised agencies such as Grey, TBWA and Tag Worldwide. She’s also worked with some of the world’s largest brands, including Citibank, Microsoft and Sony. She’s written for print, broadcast, film, digital, direct mail, POS and mobile for a wide range of companies in both Canada and the UK. Some of the campaigns she’s led have been in the multi-millions. Some campaigns have had no budget at all.
Since writing her first school play, Marcie has learnt the virtues of keeping a notebook close at hand. She’s published over 300 articles, many of which have been translated into multiple languages worldwide. She has been a scriptwriter to films airing in the UK, the US and Canada and she has contributed to the books ‘Whole-Being Retail Branding’ published by the JC Williams Group and ‘What Canadians Think’ published by Random House. From 2006 to 2007, under a pen name which she rarely discloses, she wrote a 'slice of life' column about single living in London (which ended rather abruptly once she started waxing lyrical about the virtues of couplehood.) Today, when she’s not at work, she’s making infinite edits to her (as yet uncast) feature-length screenplay.
For Marcie, building Incontext has required more than writing skills. She’s networked. A lot. While in Canada, she held Board of Director roles for a number of acronym-laden marketing associations such as AIMS (Vancouver-chapter founder), BCAMA (Editorial director), IIMA (Events director) and the National Board of Wired Woman (Vice-President.)
After earning her B.A. in Journalism and her Master of Arts in Screenwriting, Marcie still hasn’t left the classroom behind. Previously a guest lecturer for the University of British Columbia, she is now a visiting tutor at the University of Staffordshire.
A lover of all things English (except tea and black pudding), Marcie left her cramped Vancouver office, her sunny Vancouver home and her grumpy Burmese cat to happily reside in Central London.
